Our mission.

  • To make life better for people who stammer in Northern Ireland

  • To facilitate an active social network for people who stammer to connect, share experiences and build friendships which will help to normalise stammering

  • To provide role models to our young people who stammer to help them believe in themselves, to show them that stammering can be a superpower

  • To provide support to the parents & teachers of young people who stammer. We believe that they are in the best positions to help build confidence and address the negative feelings and issues around stammering

  • To fundraise to support families of young people who stammer in need of financial support to access specialist services or help meet the needs of a young person who stammers

What we’ve achieved.

  • Belfast Stammer Support have fundraised and at the moment have funding available to help support young people who stammer.

  • Belfast Stammer Support have proudly trained over 100 trainee teachers from Stranmillis University College over the last 2 years in their unique teaching degree enhancement workshop- ‘Assisting a Student who Stammers'. Stranmillis University College are trailblazers being the first and only teaching training college to incorporate this sort of training to their undergraduate student training.

  • We have mentored many young people who stammer and provided support to parents of young people who stammer.

Who we are.

We are Peter Bradley and Jamie Wilson co-founders of Belfast Stammer Support. We both have identical roles in management. We provide mentoring and a listening ear to people who stammer and help parents and teachers have a better understanding about stammering. We deliver workshops and training to educationalists in Stranmillis University College & talks to private companies and groups.

Our History.

Belfast Stammer Support was Founded 27th October 2019.

After Peter appeared on a BBC interview about being a Fire fighter with a stammer Jamie made contact & they organised a meeting. They both believed Northern Ireland needed something to help bring people who stammer together, both were passionate about taking action to make this happen thus Belfast Stammer Support was born.
